Common questions

Before you book anything

How many lessons will I need?
The DVSA average is around 45 hours of professional lessons plus 20 hours of private practice. Younger learners with a car at home often need fewer; adults learning from scratch in traffic often need more. Any school promising ten is selling you a retest.
How much are lessons?
Two-hour lessons are £36 an hour paid as you go, dropping to £32 on a ten-hour block and £30 on twenty. The calculator above shows the real per-hour rate for whatever you pick, rather than hiding the discount.
Is the test fee included?
No, and no school can include it — the DVSA charges £62 for a weekday practical test and £75 at weekends. You can add it in the calculator so the total is honest.
Can I use your car for the test?
Yes, and most pupils do. Using your own is fine too, as long as it meets the DVSA requirements and is insured for the test.
Are intensive courses a good idea?
For some people. They suit those with some experience and a clear diary, and they suit nervous beginners badly. We will tell you honestly after an assessment lesson rather than sell you one.
What if I fail?
We look at the examiner's report together, work out what actually went wrong, and book the retest. There is a ten-working-day minimum between tests, which is a good thing.
